Becobra Activity report 2025/2026

Certainty in an Uncertain World

The increasing complexity, pace and unpredictability of risk have brought the true essence of insurance into sharp focus over the past year. As a result, the need for protection, insight and reassurance has grown significantly. Insurance plays a fundamental role in this regard, providing businesses and institutions with the means to protect themselves against a broad spectrum of risks, from cyber attacks and business interruption to liability, credit risk and war.

Yet insurance is far more than a financial product. At its core, it is a promise: a commitment to stand by our clients when things go wrong, at the moments when they are most vulnerable. We do not sell a tangible product. We provide confidence and the assurance that someone will be there when it matters most. It is precisely this commitment that underpins the unique societal value of our sector.

We remain vigilant in the face of emerging risks, many of which arise at the intersection of technology and geopolitics. Cyber risk continues to be a dominant challenge, but so too do the consequences of hybrid warfare, including sabotage, disinformation and the strategic use of artificial intelligence. These developments will continue to shape the risk landscape in the years ahead. They call not only for tailored solutions, but above all for a sector that is forward-looking, agile and capable of anticipating change. By identifying risks at an early stage, developing solutions before they become urgent, and actively supporting clients in strengthening their resilience, we help businesses become stronger and better prepared.

Within this landscape, Becobra has an important role to play. As the professional association representing the leading insurance brokers serving businesses and institutions, we help shape the future development of our profession. Our mission is clear: to represent the interests of our members while strengthening the quality and professionalism of the sector. Our added value lies in bringing stakeholders together and representing the profession – between brokers, with insurers and towards policymakers. To me, the strength of Becobra lies not only in safeguarding what already exists, but also in helping to shape the agenda and driving the changes needed to ensure our profession remains forward-looking.

I look back on my first year as Chair of Becobra with both satisfaction and critical reflection. It has been a year in which I have come to know our association even better from within. It has been a particularly valuable experience, one that has given me an even deeper appreciation of both the strengths and the vulnerabilities of our sector.

Over the past year, we have once again fulfilled our role as an association with conviction, making our voice heard in a clear and constructive manner. At the same time, I recognise that we were not able to influence certain political decisions, such as changes to the taxation of insurance, to the extent we had hoped. This is an important lesson. It underlines how essential it is for our sector to play an even more prominent role in public and political debate. More than ever, I am convinced that we must explain more clearly the societal value we create and the consequences of underestimating or weakening that role.

In the year ahead, we will place additional emphasis on the technological developments that are fundamentally reshaping our sector. Digitalisation, data and artificial intelligence offer significant opportunities to work more efficiently, provide better advice and develop new services. At the same time, they bring new risks and responsibilities, both for our clients and for our own organisations.

Finally, I would like to express my sincere thanks to all our members, partners and stakeholders for their commitment and trust. It is an honour to serve as Chairman of Becobra. Together, we will continue to build a strong professional association whose societal role will only become more important in the years ahead. It is through this shared commitment that Becobra will continue to make a meaningful difference, today and in the future.
